About Us

With 6 years of coaching experience working with over 300 athletes both in one-on-one and group settings, Katherine is uniquely equipped to work with runners of all ages and abilities and would love to help support you as you chase your own unicorn!

Chasing Unicorns LLC was founded in December 2018 by Katherine Wuestenfeld. Katherine has been a life-long runner, competing in track events since middle school, running competitively on varsity teams in high school, and taking on her first road marathon as a college freshman.

Katherine knows firsthand how running can positively influence someone’s life, and how important it is to have the right kind of support to reach your goals. She spent 6 years working towards the goal of qualifying for the Boston Marathon, primarily through self-coaching, and saw the power of hiring her own running coach to reach the next level. With hard work, dedication, and the help of great mentors, she holds PRs in the marathon and half marathon of 3:07 and 1:27 respectively and has continued to set her sights on chasing that next big goal.

Katherine became a coach in October 2018 after she had several friends ask her for training plans and decided that the next logical step would be to get certified to continue helping others in their running journeys. She currently holds an RRCA (Road Runners Club of America) Level 1 Coaching Certification as well as a NASM Certified Personal Trainer Certification which she uses to help elevate her runners’ trajectory through strength training. She made her coaching business her full-time job in 2022 and hasn’t looked back since!

The name Chasing Unicorns was inspired by the pursuit of big, ambitious goals, much like the journey many amateur runners take to qualify for the prestigious Boston Marathon, whose logo features a unicorn. For Katherine, this quest is personal. It took her six years of dedication and hard work, from her first marathon to finally qualifying for Boston. Whether the goal is Boston or something else, she understands firsthand the patience, persistence, and deeper meaning behind setting and achieving long-term goals that require time and determination.

We believe effective coaching goes beyond writing a plan - it supports the whole athlete. Every plan includes dynamic warm-ups, post-run stretches, and foundational strength training with video guidance for proper form. Runners can also add advanced strength work or one-on-one personal training, but we include foundational strength training to help you stay strong, healthy, and injury-free.
